Psychics & Chasing Lions

To my readers,

One of my favorite television shows is ‘Psych.’

For those of you who have never seen this show, it is about a character with great detective skills and a photographic memory, who pretends to be a psychic in order to work with the police.  Put all the great comedy aside, there is a line in the theme song that distracts me every time.  The lyrics read, “You’d rather run when you can crawl.”  This line has literally blown me away since the first time I heard it.  It’s a call, a challenge even.  I remember study groups in my college biology course trying to figure out how to just pass the class.  That was my one goal in this course, to pass.  The sad thing is I had the potential to ace the course.

In the Bible there is a man named David who is considered to be the greatest king of Israel.  In his military might, David had this group of men that were legends. They were called the, “Mighty Men.” One of these men was a man named Benaiah.  The author of 2 Samuel writes,
“There was also Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant warrior from Kabzeel.  He did many heroic deeds, which included killing two champions of Moab.  Another time, on a snowy day, he chased a lion down into a pit and killed it.  Once, armed only with a club, he killed a great Egyptians warrior who was armed with a spear…Deeds like these made Benaiah as famous as the Three mightiest warriors. “ (2 Samuel 23:20-22,NLT.)
Benaiah didn’t settle in his life.  The accomplishments he achieved were not because he was the strongest or the mightiest, but because he seized the opportunities before him with all he had. He put a hundred and ten percent into everything he did. Imagine chasing a lion through the snow and into its home, a pit. Benaiah odds were 1-in-a-thousand, not too good.  One might even say, “He is in the wrong place at the wrong time,” but not only does Benaiah seize this opportunity-he succeeded.   If he had only done what was needed to get by, he would have ended up as lion food.  Rather he rises to the challenge before him and ends up with a huge honor; “David made him captain of the bodyguard.” (2 Samuel 23:23, NLT.)

We were created for so much more than to just merely get by. We were made to run even if the rest of the world is crawling.  When the rest of the world runs from the greatest challenges, we face them head on. I believe the situations we see as our worst days are in fact our greatest opportunities to overcome and conquer.  Don’t let the challenges of today keep us from conquering lions in the worst of conditions.  What’s keeping you back from living your life through the challenges?

Simply,
Tex G.M. Rule
"Deeds like these made Benaiah as famous as the Three mightiest warriors. “ (2 Samuel 23:22, NLT.)
